Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty in Malta

A filler-based approach to selected concerns with nasal contour, such as a visible dorsal bump, bridge definition or mild asymmetry. It changes contour rather than physically reducing the size of the nose.

Who may be suitable?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is most useful for selected contour concerns. It is not a substitute for surgery when structural change, reduction or major functional correction is required.

Common goals

Subtle profile refinement.

We commonly assess patients who want to soften the appearance of a dorsal bump, add bridge definition or improve mild asymmetry.

Dorsal bump camouflage Bridge definition Mild asymmetry Temporary change
Where surgery may be more appropriate

When you want true reduction or structural change.

Filler cannot remove a hump, reduce nasal width, correct major deformity or address breathing problems. Those goals may require assessment for surgical rhinoplasty or ENT/plastic-surgical care.

The consultation is where most of the planning happens.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is not a treatment where we simply choose a syringe size and inject. We first decide whether filler can realistically improve the concern you have and whether adding volume will actually make the nose look more balanced.

Assessment first

We look at the nose in the context of the whole face.

The same nose can look very different from the front, side and three-quarter view. We therefore assess the bridge, tip, existing asymmetry, skin, surrounding facial proportions and the specific feature that bothers you before deciding whether filler is appropriate.

What we consider

A treatment plan should answer four questions.

01 What exactly are we trying to change: a visible bump, bridge definition, asymmetry or overall profile balance?
02 Will adding volume improve the appearance, or would it make the nose look heavier or larger?
03 Which areas can be treated safely and conservatively based on your individual anatomy?
04 Would surgical rhinoplasty be more suitable if your goal involves true reduction, major structural change or breathing concerns?
Important limitation

Filler works by adding volume. It cannot remove a dorsal hump, narrow nasal bones, reduce the true size of the nose or correct an internal breathing problem. In some cases, choosing not to inject is the better aesthetic decision.

What happens during treatment?

The injection itself is usually short, but we place more emphasis on consultation and anatomical assessment because the nose is a higher-risk area for dermal filler.

01 · Assess

Review anatomy & goals

The practitioner assesses the nose, profile, skin and the change you are hoping to achieve.

02 · Plan

Choose injection points

Filler placement is planned according to anatomy rather than a fixed template.

03 · Treat

Place filler precisely

Small amounts of dermal filler are injected into selected points. Numbing may be used for comfort.

04 · Review

Check contour & aftercare

The result is reviewed and you are given advice on swelling, pressure, exercise and when to seek help.

Filler or surgical rhinoplasty?

They solve different problems. The best option depends on whether your goal is visual contouring or a permanent structural change to the nose.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty

For selected contour changes.

Uses injectable dermal filler.
Can camouflage selected bumps and improve apparent symmetry.
Usually little downtime compared with surgery.
Temporary rather than permanent.
Cannot physically reduce the nose.
Surgical rhinoplasty

For structural change.

Changes nasal cartilage and/or bone surgically.
Can reduce size and make larger structural changes.
Requires anaesthesia and a longer recovery.
Results are intended to be long-lasting.
Can be more appropriate for significant functional or anatomical concerns.

What happens after the injection?

You will usually see a change immediately, but the first look is not the final result. Early swelling, redness or small areas of bruising can alter the shape for the first few days, so we prefer to judge the result once the nose has settled.

Immediately

Contour changes are visible

The bridge or profile may look different straight away. Mild swelling can temporarily make the area look fuller than expected.

First few days

Allow swelling to settle

Tenderness, redness or bruising can occur. Avoid judging small asymmetries too early while the tissues are still settling.

After settling

Assess the actual balance

Once early swelling has reduced, the result can be reviewed more meaningfully and any follow-up can be discussed if needed.

Aftercare

Protect the treated area while it settles.

Avoid unnecessary touching, pressure or massage unless we specifically advise it.
We generally advise avoiding strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours.
Be cautious with glasses or sunglasses that place pressure directly on the treated bridge during the early settling period.
Follow the individual aftercare instructions given to you at the appointment.
Know the warning signs

Some symptoms need urgent assessment.

Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can be expected after filler.
Severe or increasing pain is not something to simply wait out.
Unusual blanching, mottled colour or cold skin should be assessed urgently.
Any visual disturbance after nasal filler requires immediate medical attention.

How often would you need another treatment?

Results are temporary. We generally quote around 6–12 months as a broad guide, but there is no reason to re-treat simply because a set number of months has passed. We prefer to reassess the nose and only consider maintenance if the contour has changed enough that further treatment is actually appropriate.

Rhinoplasty Filler FAQ

Common questions

Results, filler choice and duration vary. Your consultation should focus on anatomy, realistic goals and safety, including the rare but important vascular risks of nasal filler.

01 Can filler make my nose smaller?

Not physically. Because filler adds volume, it cannot reduce the nose. Strategic contouring can sometimes make the profile appear more balanced.

02 How long does treatment take?

We usually allow around 15–20 minutes for the injection stage itself, although consultation and assessment add time.

03 How long do results last?

We generally advise that results are temporary and may last around 6–12 months, although duration varies by filler, amount used and individual metabolism.

04 Is there downtime?

Mild swelling, redness or bruising can occur. Many people return to normal activities quickly, but aftercare restrictions still matter.

05 Can hyaluronic-acid filler be dissolved?

Hyaluronic-acid filler can be treated with hyaluronidase when clinically appropriate. This is different from saying every result is instantly or perfectly reversible.

06 What should I avoid afterwards?

Avoid unnecessary pressure on the nose and follow the practitioner's advice about exercise, glasses and other activities. Do not stop prescribed blood-thinning medication unless instructed by the clinician who prescribed it.

07 When will I see the final result?

A change is visible immediately, but swelling can affect the early appearance. The result is better judged once initial swelling settles.

08 What are the serious risks?

Rare vascular complications can occur with nasal filler. Severe pain, skin-colour changes or visual symptoms need urgent clinical assessment.

09 Can non-surgical rhinoplasty correct breathing problems?

No. Dermal filler changes external contour; it does not correct internal airway obstruction, a deviated septum or other causes of breathing difficulty. Those concerns need an appropriate medical or surgical assessment.

10 Will I always need a full 1 ml syringe?

No. We decide the amount according to the anatomy and the intended correction. More filler is not automatically better, especially in the nose where conservative placement matters.
