About the treatment

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are injectable treatments used to alter lip volume, contour and definition. Hyaluronic-acid filler is commonly selected for lip enhancement because the filler can be placed precisely and treatment can be adjusted to suit the patient's anatomy and preferences.

The aim is not necessarily to create larger lips. For some patients, the priority is improving border definition, supporting shape or correcting a visible asymmetry. Others may want additional volume.

Suitability, product choice and the amount used are determined during consultation. Results and longevity vary between patients, products and treatment approaches.

What can lip filler address?

Lip filler can be tailored to different priorities. Your practitioner will assess the lips in relation to the rest of the face before recommending an approach.

01

Volume

Add subtle or more noticeable fullness depending on the desired result and anatomy.

02

Definition

Improve the visibility and contour of the lip border while maintaining facial balance.

03

Shape

Refine proportion between the upper and lower lip and support the existing lip structure.

04

Asymmetry

Selected asymmetries may be softened with carefully planned placement of filler.

The appointment starts with assessment and treatment planning. The injection technique and product are selected according to the area being treated and the result being discussed.

Step 01

Your goals, previous filler treatment, medical history and suitability are discussed first.

Step 02

Lip filler FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Lip Fillers

These answers are general information. Your own treatment plan, expected outcome and aftercare should be discussed during consultation.

01How long do lip fillers last?

Longevity varies according to the filler product, amount used, treatment area and individual metabolism. Your practitioner can discuss what is realistic for the lip filler being planned.

02Will my lips look natural?

The treatment plan can be kept subtle or made more noticeable depending on anatomy and your preferences. The objective is agreed with you before treatment.

03Can lip filler be dissolved?

Appropriate hyaluronic-acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase when clinically indicated. Not every injectable filler material is dissolvable.

04How much filler will I need?

The amount depends on your anatomy, previous treatment and desired outcome. More product does not automatically mean a better result, so the volume is selected after assessment.

05Is there downtime?

Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising can occur. The degree and duration vary, so allow time for the lips to settle before assessing the final appearance.

06Where is treatment performed?

Lip filler consultations and treatments are available at Redefine by St Mary's Clinic in Trident Park, Birkirkara, Malta.

07How much do lip fillers cost?

Lip filler starts at €150 for 0.5ml and €220 for 1ml in the Croma range, and €200 for 0.5ml and €270 for 1ml in the premium range. Two millilitres is €400 and €510 respectively, and larger volumes are priced on request. The amount you need is decided at assessment rather than in advance, so the full price list is published on this page.

08Is lip filler safe, and what are the side effects?

Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising can occur after lip injections, and the appearance immediately after treatment is not necessarily the settled result. Less common complications include infection, an allergic reaction, lumps under the skin and, rarely, filler entering a blood vessel. Your medical history, medicines and any previous filler treatment are reviewed before treatment, and you will be advised which symptoms warrant contacting the clinic.

09Is lip filler the same as Botox?

No. Lip filler adds volume and shape to the lip itself, while Botox relaxes muscle activity and is used around the mouth for a lip flip rather than to add volume. They answer different goals and are sometimes planned together. Our Botox page covers that treatment.
