What a facial can help with

Most people book a facial with one of these aims in mind. Tell your beautician which matters most to you, and your facial is adjusted once your skin has been checked.

Goal

Refresh tired, dull-looking skin

A facial can combine cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and a mask to leave the skin feeling fresher and more comfortable.

01
Goal

Hydration

For skin that feels dry or tight.

02
Goal

Deep cleansing

For a more thorough cleanse than a home routine, with extractions where appropriate.

03
Goal

Gentle care

For sensitive skin. Products and intensity are adjusted around any sensitivities or allergies you tell us about.

04
Goal

Regular maintenance

For keeping your skin in good condition as part of a regular routine, rather than treating one specific concern.

05

Facial menu and prices

All six facials are carried out by our beautician at Redefine by St Mary's Clinic in Birkirkara, and each one is adjusted to your skin on the day.

What happens during a facial?

Most facials take around an hour, although the exact steps depend on the treatment selected and what your skin needs on the day.

01 · Assess

Skin check

Your beautician reviews your skin type, sensitivities and the result you are hoping to achieve.

02 · Cleanse

Prepare the skin

Your facial begins with cleansing and preparation before the more targeted steps.

03 · Treat

Exfoliate & nourish

Depending on the facial, this may include exfoliation, extractions where needed, masks and hydration.

04 · Finish

Aftercare guidance

Before you leave, your beautician explains how to look after your skin over the next day or two and when another facial may be useful.

Before and after your facial

Facials generally have little to no downtime. Temporary sensitivity or redness can occur after a facial, depending on the products and techniques used.

For the first day or two

Avoid unnecessary direct sun exposure and use sensible sun protection.
Avoid harsh scrubs or strong exfoliating products for a few days.
Avoid picking or touching irritated areas unnecessarily.
Follow any product-specific advice your beautician gives you.

Before your appointment

Arrive with your skin as calm as possible and tell your beautician about sensitivities, allergies, recent sun exposure and strong skincare products. If your skin is irritated or damaged, the treatment may need to be adjusted or postponed.

Facial FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Facials

01 How long does a facial take?

Most of our facials take around an hour, depending on the treatment and what your skin requires.

02 Are facials suitable for sensitive skin?

They can be. Tell your beautician about any sensitivities and allergies so the products and intensity can be adjusted to suit your skin.

03 How often should I have a facial?

For regular maintenance we generally suggest a facial every 4–6 weeks, but the best interval depends on your skin, goals and the type of facial.

04 Can men have facials?

Yes. Facial treatments can be adapted to different skin types and concerns regardless of gender.

05 Is there any downtime after a facial?

Usually there is little to no downtime, although temporary redness or sensitivity can occur depending on the treatment and products used.

06 What should I avoid after a facial?

Avoid unnecessary sun exposure, harsh exfoliation and picking at the skin while it settles. Follow the specific aftercare given for your facial.

07 How much does a facial cost in Malta?

The Red Light Facial is €35, and the Youth Infusion, Skin Refresh, Gozo Glow, H2O and Redefine facials are €49 each. Most facials take around an hour.

08 What are the benefits of a facial?

A facial gives your skin a more thorough cleanse than a home routine, with exfoliation, extractions where appropriate, a mask and hydration. Most people leave with skin that feels fresher and more comfortable. Some choose a facial every 4–6 weeks as part of an ongoing routine, while others book one when their skin needs it.

09 What is included in a facial?

A facial usually includes cleansing, exfoliation, extractions where appropriate, a mask and moisturising. Your beautician checks your skin first and adapts each step to your skin type and concerns, so the exact steps depend on the facial you choose and what your skin needs on the day.

10 Can I have a facial before a special event?

Yes, but plan the timing. Temporary redness or sensitivity can occur after a facial, so book it before the event rather than on the day itself, and tell your beautician about the date so the facial can be planned around it.
