St Mary's Clinic was founded in 1999 in Victoria, Gozo by Dr Frank Farrugia and his wife, Mrs Bernadette Farrugia. From the beginning, their aim was to expand access to private healthcare and diagnostic services for patients in Gozo.
An important early milestone was bringing CT scanning and mammography into Gozo's private healthcare sector, giving patients access to diagnostic imaging closer to home.
That original clinic became the first chapter of a much longer story. As St Mary's grew, so did its team, its range of professionals and the services available to patients.
St Mary's has developed in stages rather than standing still — from diagnostic imaging in Gozo, to a medical clinic in Mosta, aesthetic medicine, regenerative treatments, hair restoration and a dedicated second clinic.

St Mary's expands to Malta with its clinic in Mosta. Beginning as a medical clinic, the new location creates the foundation for the multidisciplinary practice that would develop over the following decades.
As the clinic's medical team and range of professionals continued to grow, St Mary's expanded into aesthetic medicine during the 2010s, introducing a new area of care alongside its established medical services.
St Mary's begins performing stem cell therapy under Dr Farrugia. Since 2014, the clinic's approach and experience with the treatment have continued to develop as regenerative medicine techniques have evolved.
Hair restoration becomes a dedicated part of the St Mary's offering, expanding from hair-loss assessment and treatment into surgical hair transplantation and creating the foundations of St Mary's Hair Clinic.
Redefine by St Mary's Clinic opens at Trident Park, creating a dedicated destination for aesthetics. This allows the Mosta location to return its focus to medical care and diagnostics while Redefine develops the aesthetic side of the St Mary's name in its own environment.
St Mary's has repeatedly expanded into new areas of healthcare as the clinic has grown — from diagnostic imaging in its earliest years to regenerative medicine, aesthetic treatments and hair restoration.
From its earliest days, St Mary's invested in diagnostic capability. The Gozo clinic introduced CT scanning and mammography to the island's private healthcare sector, reducing the need for patients to travel for private diagnostic imaging.

For more than 15 years, Dr Godfrey Sant reported radiology for St Mary's Clinic. A trusted colleague and a deeply valued member of our clinic family, he was loved by the team and formed an important part of the radiology service for many years. His contribution to St Mary's, and the memories shared with him, remain part of the clinic he helped serve.
Antoinette was there from the beginning of the Mosta chapter in 2002 and remained with St Mary's until her retirement in 2023. For more than two decades she was a rock within the clinic — known and loved by patients, trusted by the team and a true part of the St Mary's family. Her contribution to the clinic's journey will never be forgotten.
